As the gateway to Knight and Kingcome inlets and the Broughton Archipelago, Alert Bay promises exciting ecological adventures. The world-renowned Robson Bight Ecological Reserve, a favoured rubbing beach for killer whales, is just 30 minutes away by boat.

Alert Bay is located on Cormorant Island, amidst splendid scenery and abundant wildlife. This crescent-shaped island is situated just off the northeast coast of Vancouver Island, approximately 180 miles by water from the city of Vancouver. Located on the beautiful Inside Passage of British Columbia, Alert Bay can be reached by taking a 40-minute ferry ride from Port McNeill. Wondering what to do when you visit? Alert Bay and Cormorant Island offers lots of both outdoor and indoor activities. You can indulge in the outdoor pursuits, immerse yourself in local arts, cultures and history, even bowl a perfect game!

The Broughton Archipelago is well-known for excellent deep-sea diving, kayaking and whale-watching. An extensive bike and walking trail system has been developed on Cormorant Island to allow for a closer view of the natural habitat. A stroll along the waterfront boardwalk offers a virtual treasure trove of sights and sounds.

You can walk on our beaches and look for lost "treasures" washed ashore by Pacific currents. Watch for eagle feathers, periwinkles and driftwood polished smooth by gentle ocean waves. At low tide check the tidal pools for interesting sea life - watch for starfish, crabs and other critters.
